Scheck Hillel Community School, a large Orthodox Jewish community school located in sunny North Miami Beach, Florida, is currently accepting resumes for an experienced full-time Guidance Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year.

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lower School K-5 Guidance Counselor who will play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our young students.


Responsibilities

  • Supports students, faculty, and families with SEL practices based in Conscious Discipline and Responsive Classroom
  • Supports faculty and administration with daily issues that arise (grief, teacher illness, peer victimization, conflict resolution, parent meetings, conferences, academic weaknesses). 
  • Encourages core values by collaborating with Judaics, General Studies, Student Life. 
  • Provides social/emotional lessons to classes to improve social skills, fosters unity, teaches social and problem solving skills. 
  • Introduces common themes (weekly or monthly) that can be reinforced via curriculum (literacy), and discussion (improve critical thinking and perspective taking). 
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Involves children in cooperative activities with peers outside of their immediate peer group
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and monitor student progress.
  • Facilitate communication between teachers, parents, and administration regarding student achievements and concerns.
  • Assist in the admissions process by conducting student assessments and participating in interviews.
  • Support new students and their families during the transition into the school community, providing orientation and resources.
  • Participate in admissions events, including open houses and school tours, to engage prospective families.
  • Stay informed about best child development and counseling practices, participating in ongoing professional development.
  • Construct and deliver faculty and family programs to proactively support students.
  • Develop and implement learning plans and student action plans based on psycho-educational testing.
  • Review the plans above with staff to improve classroom management, problem-solving skills, and education about learning disabilities, learning differences, accommodations, and differentiation. 
  • Provides insight into a child's strengths and weaknesses both academically and socially in order to foster a positive relationship between child and teacher and enable the teacher to provide accommodations (visual cues, reminders, etc.) and to facilitate success in the classroom and with peers. 
  • Other duties may be assigned. 
 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Valid counseling certification or licensure in the US.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, parents, and the broader school community.
