Job Description

Position: Theatre Program Director Date: July 1, 2025 Department: Faculty FLSA: Non-Exempt Full-time/Part-time: Full-time Supervisor: Principal Direct Reports: N/A Provides Work Direction to: N/A Receives Work Direction from: Principal, President Purpose of Position: The primary responsibility of our Theatre Program Director is to develop and implement a comprehensive theatre arts program that fosters creativity, collaboration, and a love of performance in students. This individual will teach theatre-related courses, direct school productions, and contribute to the overall artistic and educational vision of the school’s performing arts department. This person will bring passion and experience to provide a strong background in theater productions, acting, and technical theatre. Representative Responsibilities: Instruction and Curriculum Development: Develop and teach a variety of theatre courses, including but not limited to Acting, Theatre Arts, Stagecraft, Musical Theatre, and Theatre History. Create engaging lesson plans that align with state and national arts education standards. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students of all skill levels feel encouraged to express themselves. Evaluate and assess student progress through performances, written assignments, and other assessments. Integrate technology and multimedia into lessons to enhance student learning experiences. Theatre Productions and Directing: Direct and oversee all aspects of school theatre productions, including plays, musicals, and student showcases. Select appropriate scripts that align with the school’s values, resources, and student abilities. Manage auditions, rehearsals, and performances while fostering a professional and educational environment. Collaborate with students, staff and community members to bring high-quality productions to the stage. Collaboration and Community Engagement: Work closely with other arts educators, administrators, and school staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives. Partner with local theatre organizations, universities, and professionals to provide additional learning opportunities for students. Promote theatre events through social media, school newsletters, and community outreach. Involve parents, alumni, and local businesses in supporting theatre productions and fundraising efforts. Technical Theatre and Production Management: Supervise set design, lighting, sound, costumes, and props, ensuring a well-rounded and educational experience for students interested in technical theatre. Work with technical staff, parent volunteers, and student crews to construct and manage stage elements. Maintain theatre equipment, costumes, and production spaces, ensuring safety and organization. Student Development and Extracurricular Activities: Mentor and advise students in theatre-related extracurricular activities such as drama club, improv teams, and Thespian Honor Society. Encourage student leadership and participation in theatre-related events and competitions. Support students in preparing for college auditions, scholarships, and career opportunities in theatre arts. Administrative Duties: Develop and manage an annual theatre department budget including ticket sales, fundraising, and grant opportunities. Coordinate production schedules, facility use, and technical needs with school administrators. Ensure compliance with all school policies and safety regulations for theatre productions.
