**T his position is located in Navasota, Texas.**

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Must have MD or DO Certification.

JOB SUMMARY:

Serves as Medical Director for a number of correctional facilities within a designated region. Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients and of employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID work-related activities. Ensures that appropriate healthcare is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders final medical judgment regarding care provided to designated inmates according to Health Services Policies and Procedures. Directs all Health Services activities within the region and assumes ultimate responsibility for all medical providers assigned within the region. Works under the direction of the senior medical director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Contributes to the success of Correctional Managed Care.
  • Oversees medical providers within the region to optimize the delivery of patient care, including monitoring of staff activities and levels, participation with HR in filling vacant provider positions, monitoring and approval of travel, completion of annual evaluations, participation in disciplinary actions as needed and all other duties required for maintenance of a professional provider workforce.
  • Works closely with all other disciplines in support of the delivery of medical care to patients, including active participation as a member of a regional team, participation in conferences and meetings as needed, preparation of material in support of the mission, participation on several leadership committees as assigned, and other duties as needed.
  • Optimizes communication within the region and disciplines, including serving as a resource for medical providers and others in addressing the delivery of medical care to patients, maintains regular provider communication and training, visits units within the region on a regular basis to provide information and guidance, and is available as required.
  • Maintains oversight of provider productivity, off-site transportation,n and patient care and compliance with CMC guidelines for fiscal responsibility.
  • Directly supervises physicians and assigned mid-level practitioners within the region.
  • Oversees and manages operations of the region's medical providers in cooperation with other regional team members, assuring compliance with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
